She lifted the medallion up and turned it over. On the back there was an inscription written in a language Kate had never seen before. She looked questioningly at her mum.

“When I became chief archaeologist of the temple,” her mother explained quickly, “I was entrusted with this necklace. On the back of the medallion is an ancient inscription that tells the exact location of the central well within the Temple of Angkor Wat. Deep inside the central well is the sacred treasure of the god-king. No one knows what the treasure looks like. Not only is it priceless, it’s a source of power to whomever possesses it.”

“But how could anyone read what’s on the back?” asked Kate, staring at the funny writings on the medallion.

“Only a few people in the world know how to decipher that language,” answered Kate’s mum. “And, unfortunately, the man who is after it is one of them.”
